The Living-Power Deck

Fifty-two who govern Rome now · the rank is the value
✠ How to read the deck ⟳ Re-verified 2026-07-27: the entire ♠ suit — all thirteen cards from the Pope to the Preacher — now stands on sixty-point FIELD FILES, each web-verified individually on 2026-07-26/27. Two labels were corrected in the process (Hollerich's synod title, Marín's archiepiscopal rank). Click any gold card to open its file. A true 52-card deck of the living — only people who hold power in the Church right now, in 2026: current officeholders and living, influential figures. No dead saints, no past popes — history belongs in the dossier, not the deck. The four suits are four kinds of present power, and the rank is the value — the Ace is the summit of that kind, then King, Queen, Jack, down through 10 to 2. Rank measures the weight of the office, not the worth of the person.
♠ Spades — The Helm. The pope & the government of the Holy See.
♦ Diamonds — The Ministries. The prefects who run the Roman Curia.
♥ Hearts — The Shepherds. Cardinal-archbishops leading the great local churches.
♣ Clubs — Orders & Voices. Heads of religious orders & leading living voices.
✓ Every one of the 52 was verified online as living and in office on 2026-07-23. The check caught four leaders who had already been replaced — New York, Westminster, the Benedictine primacy and the papal almonry. Offices decay; re-verify each name at every audit.

Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re

Dean of the College of Cardinals

Re-elected dean in 2025, he convened and presided over the conclave that elected Leo , and remains first among the cardinals when the See falls vacant. ⚠︎ Re-checked 2026-10-08: Re (age 92) is still Dean per gcatholic (updated 2026-10-07), but the card is inaccurate (not a new event): his term was extended by Francis (announced 2025-02-06), not re-elected, and being over 80 he did not preside inside the 2025 conclave; Parolin did. Re led the pre-conclave congregations and the Pro Eligendo Mass.
