Who led it

AMY CARLSON (30 November 1975 – April 2021), a former McDonald's manager from Kansas, called MOTHER GOD, who claimed to be 19 billion years old, to have birthed all of creation, and to have been reincarnated 534 times, including as Jesus and Cleopatra. Her successive male consorts were titled FATHER GOD, including AMERITH WHITEEAGLE (Robert Saltsgaver) and, from 2018, JASON CASTILLO.

What it worshipped and taught

An internet-native syncretism: New Age ascension, Ashtar Command and Galactic Federation UFO material, QAnon political conspiracy, and Carlson herself as the divine mother. The group livestreamed almost continuously on YouTube and funded itself selling colloidal silver and spiritual healing sessions online. Carlson drank colloidal silver in large quantities, which turned her skin blue-grey (argyria), and refused all medical care.

Amy Carlson (Mother God); Jason Castillo (Father God); MIGUEL LAMBOY, who walked into a police station and reported the body; the seven members arrested in 2021; JOHN ROBERTSON; LAURYN SUAREZ and ASHLEY PELUSO, who started 5D Full Disclosure; the HBO docuseries Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God (13 November 2023).

How it ended, or where it stands

Fragmented after the leader's death into at least two successor operations, Joy Rains and 5D Full Disclosure, both selling sessions online. No charges stood.

Of note

The first fully internet-native cult in this dossier — recruitment, funding, doctrine and worship all conducted through livestream, with a physical core of barely a dozen people. It also marks the merger of New Age spirituality with QAnon, a fusion sometimes called conspirituality.

Its timeline

  1. LATE 2007 The group begins in Colorado, largely online.
  2. 2010s The group moves repeatedly, livestreaming daily; 12 to 20 people live in, with a much larger online audience.
  3. 2020 QAnon material becomes central; Carlson's health collapses.
  4. APRIL 2021 CARLSON DIES, around the middle of the month, near MOUNT SHASTA, CALIFORNIA. Around 27 April followers drive her body about 1,200 miles to Crestone, Colorado.
  5. 28 APRIL 2021 Miguel Lamboy tells police in Salida that they will find a body at his house. Officers find AMY CARLSON'S MUMMIFIED BODY in a sleeping bag, wrapped in Christmas lights, with glitter on her face. Seven members are arrested for abuse of a corpse and child abuse.
  6. 2021 The coroner finds a natural death from alcohol abuse, anorexia and chronic colloidal silver ingestion. BY SEPTEMBER THE CHARGES HAVE BEEN DROPPED.
  7. 2021–2026 The group splits. JOY RAINS, run by Jason Castillo and John Robertson from Wisconsin, teaches that Mother and Father God merged inside Castillo's body and sells 'Christic Awakening' sessions. 5D FULL DISCLOSURE, started in Florida by former members Lauryn Suarez and Ashley Peluso, sells online healing sessions and events.

A former McDonald's manager from Kansas who began the group in Colorado in late 2007 and built the first fully internet-native cult — recruitment, doctrine, funding and worship all conducted by continuous YouTube livestream, with a physical core of barely a dozen people and thousands watching. She claimed to be 19 billion years old, to have birthed creation, and to have been reincarnated 534 times, including as Jesus and Cleopatra. She fused New Age ascension material with QAnon. She drank colloidal silver in quantity, which turned her skin blue-grey, refused all medical care, and died, the coroner found, of alcohol abuse, anorexia and chronic colloidal silver ingestion.

Before the law. Died before any charge. Seven members were arrested for abuse of a corpse and child abuse; the charges were dropped by September 2021.

Where things stand. Deceased 2021. Two successor groups, Joy Rains and 5D Full Disclosure, sell sessions online.

Father God

Consort and enforcer, Love Has Won · born c.1980s · active 2018–2021

The last of several men to hold the title Father God alongside Amy Carlson. Former members and livestream footage document him physically assaulting her during broadcasts. He was among the seven arrested when her mummified body was found in Colorado in April 2021. He has since led one of the successor groups that continue to livestream.

Before the law. Arrested for abuse of a corpse and child abuse in April 2021; the charges were dropped.

Where things stand. Living. Leads a successor group.

  1. 2018 Becomes Carlson's partner and 'Father God'.
  2. 2020–21 Assaults recorded on the group's own livestreams;
  3. April 2021 Carlson dies; her body is transported over 1,000 miles.
  4. 28 April 2021 Arrested with six others in Moffat, Colorado.
  5. 2021 The charges against the seven are dropped by September.
  6. 2022–2026 FORMS HIS OWN SUCCESSOR GROUP, JOY RAINS, with John Robertson ('Father Multiverse'), relocating to WISCONSIN. Its doctrine holds that MOTHER GOD AND FATHER GOD MERGED INSIDE CASTILLO'S BODY after Carlson's death in 2021 — an unusually direct example of a successor absorbing the dead leader's divinity rather than mourning it. The group posts regularly and sells 'CHRISTIC AWAKENING' sessions.
