Dwight York
Malachi Z. York; Amunnubi Rooakhptah; Chief Black Eagle
Founder, the Nuwaubian Nation · born 26 June 1945 · active c.1967–2002
Reinvented his theology roughly every five years — Black Muslim, then Sudanese-style Islam, then Egyptian revivalism, then Native American, then UFO and Nibiru material, then Moorish sovereignty. He built a full-scale Egyptian complex called Tama-Re on 476 acres in rural Georgia. He was convicted in federal court in 2004 of racketeering and of transporting minors for sex — having also been indicted on 116 Georgia state counts — in what federal prosecutors described as among the largest child molestation cases ever brought against a single defendant, with victims as young as four.
Before the law. CONVICTED 2004; serving 135 years at ADX Florence, Colorado; projected release date 2120. Earlier convictions in New York for assault and possession.
Where things stand. Incarcerated at ADX FLORENCE, Colorado, AGED 81 (he turned 81 on 26 June 2026; this file said 80, which had gone stale), having served more than twenty years of a 135-YEAR SENTENCE imposed at his April 2004 sentencing for racketeering and child sexual abuse. No grant of release or transfer out of custody had been made as of October 2025. A small following persists and maintains his innocence.

Sheriff Howard Sills
—
Putnam County Sheriff who pursued Dwight York · born c.1955 · active 1993–2004
Sheriff of a rural Georgia county of about 20,000 people who spent nearly a decade building the case against Dwight York's Nuwaubian Nation while the group accused him of racist persecution and staged large demonstrations against him. He persisted, coordinated with federal agencies, and the case ended in York's 2004 federal conviction for racketeering and transporting minors for sex, after a 116-count state indictment, and a 135-year sentence — one of the largest child molestation prosecutions ever brought against a single defendant in the United States. It is a rare example of a small local force sustaining a case of that scale.
Before the law. Law enforcement. Still serving as sheriff for many years afterwards.
Where things stand. LIVING AND STILL IN OFFICE — confirmed August 2026. He remains SHERIFF OF PUTNAM COUNTY, GEORGIA, standing as the incumbent at the general election of 5 NOVEMBER 2024 after winning the Republican primary. He has held the office for TWENTY-SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS, with close to half a century in law enforcement behind him.

- 1999–2002 Sills investigates while the group mounts a public campaign against him.
- 8 May 2002 York arrested.
- 23 January 2004 York convicted in federal court.
- 2004 Sentenced to 135 years.
