What it worshipped and taught
A Neo-Templar synthesis claiming descent from the medieval Knights Templar, mixed with Rosicrucianism, New Age ecology and apocalyptic astrology. Doctrine: the Earth was ending in ecological catastrophe, and the elect would TRANSIT — die physically in order to travel to a new world orbiting the star SIRIUS, where they would be reborn as glorious beings. Di Mambro used holographic projections and electronic effects during rituals to produce apparitions of the Ascended Masters; when a member, Tony Dutoit, revealed the equipment was fake, he was marked for death. Di Mambro's daughter EMMANUELLE, born 1982, was presented as the cosmic child, conceived by theogamy.

Joseph Di Mambro; Luc Jouret; Dominique Bellaton; Emmanuelle Di Mambro; Elie Di Mambro; TONY AND NICKY DUTOIT and their three-month-old son CHRISTOPHER EMMANUEL, killed in Quebec — the infant stabbed repeatedly, reportedly with a wooden stake, because Di Mambro had declared him the Antichrist; ROBERT OSTIGUY, mayor of Richelieu, Quebec; Jean-Pierre Lardanchet, a French policeman; Camille Pilet, a wealthy financier member; Michel Tabachnik, a conductor, tried twice and acquitted both times, in June 2001 and December 2006.
Of note
The critical detail, established by Swiss and French investigations, is that these were not simple mass suicides. THE SWISS POLICE AND JUDICIAL INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED A SPLIT BETWEEN THE TWO SITES: MOST OF THOSE WHO DIED AT CHEIRY WERE MURDERED, while AT LEAST A GOOD HALF OF THOSE AT SALVAN DIED BY SUICIDE. The dead at Cheiry were shot, drugged and suffocated by other members, including people who had asked to leave or who had begun to doubt. The transit doctrine gave a religious frame to what was substantially the elimination of witnesses to a collapsing financial fraud.

A French jeweller and former AMORC Rosicrucian, previously convicted of fraud, who supplied the Solar Temple's money, structure and stagecraft. He used holographic projections and electronic effects during rituals to produce apparitions of the Ascended Masters. His daughter Emmanuelle, born 1982, was presented as the cosmic child conceived by theogamy. When the member Tony Dutoit revealed the apparitions were faked, Di Mambro had him, his wife and their three-month-old son killed — the infant stabbed 50 times with a wooden stake and declared the Antichrist. He died in the Salvan chalet fires.
Before the law. Prior fraud conviction in France. Died before any prosecution for the killings.
Where things stand. Deceased October 1994. 74 people died across three countries between 1994 and 1997.

BORN IN THE BELGIAN CONGO, educated at the FREE UNIVERSITY OF BRUSSELS, qualified as a physician and then trained as a homeopath with a practice in France. By the early 1980s he was a popular speaker on alternative medicine across French-speaking Europe and Quebec — the recruitment instrument of the order, where Di Mambro was the machinery. He drew educated professionals through respectable conference circuits before introducing the Neo-Templar and apocalyptic material. A 1993 conviction in Canada for illegally attempting to buy firearms triggered the publicity that began the order's unravelling.
Before the law. Convicted in Canada, 1993, of attempting to illegally acquire firearms; fined. Died before prosecution for the deaths.
Where things stand. Deceased October 1994.

Alleged senior figure, Order of the Solar Temple — twice acquitted · born 10 November 1942 · active 1980s–1994
A Swiss orchestral conductor of international standing who was associated with the order and was twice prosecuted in France on charges of participating in a criminal organisation connected to the deaths. He was acquitted in 2001 and again on appeal in 2006, the courts finding insufficient evidence that he knew of or participated in the killings. He is included precisely because the record exonerates him: he is the counter-example to the assumption that everyone near a lethal group is complicit.
Before the law. TWICE ACQUITTED. No finding of guilt was ever made against him.
Where things stand. LIVING, AGED 83, AND CONDUCTING AT THE TOP OF THE PROFESSION — CONFIRMED AUGUST 2026. His 2025/26 engagements include the ISTANBUL STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, the NEW JAPAN PHILHARMONIC and the OSAKA PHILHARMONIC, and he is teaching a conducting masterclass at the TEATRO NICCOLINI IN FLORENCE from 26 TO 31 AUGUST 2026. He co-founded the ENSEMBLE INTERCONTEMPORAIN in Paris with PIERRE BOULEZ and has been Music Director of the BRUSSELS PHILHARMONIC. THIS IS PART OF THE RECORD, NOT AN ASIDE: he was prosecuted in connection with the Order of the Solar Temple and ACQUITTED, and he went on to a full international career. The dossier notes elsewhere how rarely the accused in these cases return to ordinary life; this is the clearest instance of someone who did.

Tony Dutoit was the order's electronics technician — the man who installed the equipment Joseph Di Mambro used to project the 'apparitions' of the Ascended Masters during rituals. When he told other members the visions were staged, he became a threat to the entire enterprise. He, his wife Nicky and their three-month-old son were killed at their home in Morin-Heights, Quebec, days before the Swiss deaths. The infant was stabbed repeatedly with a wooden stake; Di Mambro had declared him the Antichrist, reportedly because his birth violated an instruction that no other child should rival his own daughter.
Before the law. NO ONE WAS EVER CONVICTED. Di Mambro and Jouret died days later.
Where things stand. All three deceased 1994. The infant Christopher Emmanuel was three months old.
