I. Le nœud de cent ans

2. L'énergie, calculée

Load: 15 W × 24 h = 360 Wh a day Reserve: 3 cloudy days × 360 Wh = 1,080 Wh Battery: 1,080 Wh ÷ 0.80 (use only 80%) = 1,350 Wh → a 12 V 110–120 Ah battery for a full 3 days a 12 V 100 Ah battery (1,280 Wh) × 0.80 = 1,024 Wh → about 2.8 days (2.6 counting the converter's loss): enough to begin Sun: Jacksonville averages about 4.5–5 full-sun hours a day; about 3.5 in December (estimate) Panel: 200 W × 4.5 h × 0.75 (losses, heat, angle) ≈ 675 Wh a day → about 1.9 × the load 200 W × 3.5 h × 0.75 ≈ 525 Wh a day in December → still above 360 Converter: 15 W ÷ 0.90 (the buck's own loss) ≈ 16.7 W → about 400 Wh a day drawn: still under the December 525 Ageing: the panel loseth about 0.5% a year; after 25 years 200 W × 0.88 ≈ 176 W → 462 Wh in December, still above 400

2a. The currents, and what they ask of the wire

Charging: 200 W ÷ 13.6 V (charging voltage) ≈ 14.7 A → within the 75/15's 15 A limit; the controller caps it there Fuse: 15 A × 1.25 (headroom for a fuse) ≈ 19 A → a 20 A fuse between controller and battery Load: 16.7 W ÷ 12.8 V ≈ 1.3 A → a 5 A fuse on the computer's line, 2 A on the radio Wire: 10 AWG (5–6 mm²) from controller to battery, at most 1 m: the drop is under 1% at 15 A Panel: a 12 V 200 W panel is about 22–24 V open-circuit, about 26 V on a frozen morning; the 75/15 taketh up to 75 V Lightning: panel frame, rack and case bonded to one ground rod, 8 ft, with 6 AWG bare copper
