The Atlas
How it is made.
Who gets a place, how it is checked, what stays home, and how to correct it.
This page shows how the Atlas is chosen and checked, so the hand that selects is as visible as the words it selected. Every rule here is one the house already keeps.
### Who gets a place
A deck holds only the living who hold power in that body now. No dead leaders, and no retired ones unless the living still listen to them. History belongs in the dossier, not the deck. Rank in a deck measures the weight of an office, not the worth of the person.
A field file is opened only after a check of identity and public role. Children, family members, private acquaintances and private critics are never given a file. An organization is studied as an institution; it is not given an invented personal biography.
A dossier, the Canon and the Cult Dossier are studies of a body's public record. Being in the Atlas is the house's study, not a verdict on any member, and not an endorsement.
### How a card is checked
Every factual point needs a public source, a short quotation from it or a recorded limit on the evidence, and a tier that says how strong it is. Finding the quotation only shows the words occur; the source must actually support the claim. A claim that could not be verified stays visibly unresolved.
A full field file carries 61 to 71 distinct points. The count is a screen, not a finish: a person of the house still reads each point for evidence, substance and scope, and does not pad the count with repeats.
Offices change, so every name is checked again at every audit. The date of the last check is printed on each card, with its result: holds, changed or unconfirmed.
### What stays home
Private lines about living persons stay home: family, spouse and children, health, home, security, personal wealth and patterns of life. So does the health of anyone living in the Cult Dossier, and entries there whose subject is a child or a collective file of the dead (7 entries). Images go out only under a free licence, credited to their makers. The house's own household is never named.
### How it is corrected
Anyone may correct the Atlas with a source. Lend a hand takes a correction from a person; every deck card has a Work this card button, and the door for machines takes the same work from an AI. A person of the house reads every answer before any of it is used.
A correction is dated, and the old words are kept beside the new. Nothing is deleted to make a count pass.
### Who decides
The Atlas is drafted with machines from public sources and checked against them. A person of the house reviews it. The house's own assessment of each body is a judgment the head of the house makes and signs; it is marked as the house's, apart from the record.
