### Its timeline
- c.1133 Mao Ziyuan founds a devotional lay Buddhist society.
- 1351 THE RED TURBAN REBELLION begins under Han Shantong; it topples the Mongol Yuan dynasty.
- 1368 Zhu Yuanzhang, a former Red Turban, founds the Ming dynasty — and outlaws the tradition.
- 1796–1804 THE WHITE LOTUS REBELLION against the Qing — eight years of war across Hubei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and neighbouring country, ENDING THE BELIEF THAT MANCHU ARMS WERE UNBEATABLE and draining a treasury that never recovered. The Qing had to rely on Han recruits and local mercenaries to finish it.
- 19th c. Successor movements feed into the Eight Trigrams rising and eventually the Boxers.
