### Its timeline
- 1990 Krivonogov founds the group from an earlier occult study circle.
- 1991 Tsvigun proclaimed Maria Devi Christos.
- 1992–1993 Mass propaganda across Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Central Asia; enormous public alarm; families report children vanishing.
- 10 NOVEMBER 1993 Members enter Saint Sophia's Cathedral in Kyiv, cut the telephones and block the exits, reportedly planning mass self-immolation. Police intervene; 25 are arrested for organising riots and more than 600 members are detained, many of whom go on hunger strike.
- 24 NOVEMBER 1993 The original predicted date passes.
- 1996 Tsvigun and Krivonogov convicted of organising mass riots, seizing public buildings and harming the health of citizens. Krivonogov receives seven years, Tsvigun four, and a third leader, VIKTOR KOVALCHUK, six.
- AUGUST 1997 Tsvigun is freed in an amnesty for the anniversary of Ukrainian independence. She later restyles herself VICTORIA PREOBRAZHENSKAYA, runs art projects and founds a Mystic College of Isis.
### Its people
### Marina Tsvigun
Maria Devi Christos; Victoria Preobrazhenskaya; born Marina Mamonova
Co-leader, the Great White Brotherhood · born 28 March 1960 · active 1990–1997
Before the law. CONVICTED in Ukraine, 1996; four years. Her husband Yuri Krivonogov received seven.
Where things stand. Living, born 1960 — but this file said she ‘leads a tiny remnant’, AND THE EVIDENCE DOES NOT SUPPORT EVEN THAT. As of 2025 she keeps a markedly low public profile, WITH NO DOCUMENTED MASS GATHERINGS, PROSELYTISING OR REVIVAL EFFORT of the Great White Brotherhood, and no legal proceedings, arrests or public controversies since the early 2000s. SHE RENAMED HERSELF VICTORIA PREOBRAZHENSKAYA and moved to MOSCOW, where for years she promoted esoteric material and PRO-RUSSIAN POLITICS, supporting ‘Novorossiya’. A messianic claimant who once drew thousands to Kyiv now surfaces mainly as a political voice, with no organisation visibly behind her.
- 1991 Proclaimed Maria Devi Christos.
- 1992–93 Mass propaganda across the former USSR; officials claim some 80,000 followers, scholars nearer 1,000, many of them teenagers.
- 10 November 1993 Members enter Saint Sophia's Cathedral; 25 arrested, more than 600 detained.
- 1996 CONVICTED of organising mass riots and related offences; four years.
- AUGUST 1997 Freed in an amnesty for the anniversary of Ukrainian independence.
