- 1325 CE Tenochtitlan founded on the island where an eagle was seen on a cactus — the image now on the Mexican flag.
- 1428 CE Triple Alliance formed; Tlacaelel reportedly orders older histories burned and rewrites Mexica origins to place Huitzilopochtli at the centre.
- 1487 CE Templo Mayor dedicated with mass sacrifice.
- 1502–1520 CE Reign of Moctezuma II.
- 1519 CE Cortés lands.
- 1521 CE Tenochtitlan falls after a siege, with smallpox doing much of the work. The state religion is abolished within a generation.
- 1531 CE The apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe at Tepeyac, a hill previously associated with the goddess Tonantzin. Guadalupe becomes the vehicle through which indigenous Mexico enters Catholicism, and remains the most visited Catholic shrine in the world.
- 1978 CE Electrical workers uncover the Coyolxauhqui stone in Mexico City; the Templo Mayor excavation begins.
